Android robots in external applications
As part of the DATIpilot ANDREA project, Hochschule der Medien is researching the use of humanoid robots in real-world scenarios. The android robot ‘Andrea’ and realistic robot heads developed by the HdM are being used to identify and test new use cases in human-robot interaction, including in museums, hospitals and businesses.
The aim of the project is to investigate how such robots can be deployed in practice and how they are accepted by users. The focus is on both technological challenges and the practical relevance and added value for the organisations involved. The aim is to enable Andrea to recognise the wishes and needs of customers, thereby improving service quality and customer-friendliness at the locations where she is deployed.
Technical development and practical relevance
From a technical perspective, an existing software platform is being further developed to provide an easily manageable integrated system for the external deployment of the robots. Implementation is taking place iteratively and in close collaboration with industry partners.
The project results will be documented and published. A key objective is also to eventually transform the validated prototype into a start-up, thereby facilitating the transfer of research into commercial application.
