What is in situ?

The EU project IN SITU (Intergenerational Social Innovation Support Scheme) addresses socio-economic and demographic challenges. The project is being carried out jointly by six European partner regions – Stuttgart (Germany), Veneto (Italy), Rijeka (Croatia), Dąbrowa Górnicza (Poland), Maribor (Slovenia) and the project management team in Vienna (Austria).

The aim is to enable people lacking resources and knowledge to access opportunities for setting up businesses in the field of social innovation. At the same time, young and older people are brought together so that both generations can exchange experiences and compensate for each other’s lack of skills. The main components are training programmes and strategies for involving stakeholders from the respective region.

To meet the specific needs of the partner regions, the project consortium will formulate a strategy for the development and promotion of intergenerational social innovation. The project will run for three years, with funding of €2,418,720.

What exactly does IN SITU do in Stuttgart?

The Stuttgart-based team is developing a training programme aimed at people with refugee or migrant backgrounds, the long-term unemployed, and those going through career transitions. It is important to us to empower people both to start their own businesses and to (re)integrate into the labour market.

Our six-month training programme, ‘Empowered by Entrepreneurship’, is designed to help with this. Here, participants not only receive free workshops and seminars on starting a business, but also workshops specifically focused on developing and improving so-called ‘soft skills’. These include, for example, conflict management, presentation techniques and self-marketing. In addition, “German Learning Thursdays” provide group sessions where anyone currently learning German can expand their language skills and practise together. Another key component is the “Networking” section. By connecting with other start-ups and businesses, our participants can build their own network and establish useful contacts. All participants also receive support from personal mentors who assist them with all organisational matters.

With “Empowered by Entrepreneurship”, we aim to inspire participants to take their careers forward and have the courage to make a difference.
