Triangle for Academic Startups
TriAS – Triangle for Academic Startups is creating a cross-university support network for start-ups and spin-offs in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and life sciences. The Hochschule der Medien (HdM), the University of Tübingen and Reutlingen University are pooling their expertise to provide targeted support for innovative business ideas originating from academia and to facilitate their development into successful companies.
Funding and duration
TriAS is receiving funding of up to €1.46 million from the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts as part of the INSPIRE BW Hubs initiative, from 1 October 2024 to 31 December 2028. This funding will enable the establishment of sustainable structures to support knowledge- and technology-based start-ups.
Key areas
The project relies on close collaboration between the three universities and their business incubators. The following measures are key components:
- Talent pool: Making it easier to find suitable co-founders and experts for start-up teams.
- Funding network: Building a stable network of investors and funding programmes to secure early-stage financing.
- Expansion of entrepreneurship education: Opening up and supplementing existing courses and certificate programmes for students and researchers interested in starting a business.
- Optimising advisory services: Sharing best practices and developing joint advisory formats to professionalise support structures.
Johanna Kutter from the Startup Centre at the Hochschule der Medien is leading the TriAS project at the HdM. Together with her partners, she is working to take research transfer via start-ups to a new level and to create sustainable structures for future start-ups in the long term.
